Opening September 2nd, 2021
Central Ohio artist Julia Hamilton has her first solo show at Highline Coffee Art Space in Worthington when she exhibits September 2 – October 31, 2021.
A native of Columbus, Hamilton has loved making art since childhood. Born with the rare but benign condition of synesthesia, she has the ability to visualize music, which she uses to her advantage as inspiration for her artwork. In 2019, Hamilton graduated with honors from the Master of Fine Art program at Columbus College of Art and Design.
As a mixed media artist, Hamilton embraces chaos by lighting her artwork on fire. “It has been my experience that life is more interesting when it includes order balanced with chaos,” she reveals.
Working on clay board, Hamilton begins by lighting alcohol inks on fire. The fire introduces textured chaos to the piece. After the burn, she embellishes the piece with intricate patterns using pen, pencil, acrylics, and other mediums, balancing the chaos with order.
“Julia’s artwork is unique and fascinating,” says Christie Bruffy, owner and manager of Highline Coffee Co. “After learning how she creates, I am even more intrigued.”
